  • Clinton Attaché Show Choir takes the stage for fall revue
    7:30 pm-9:00 pm
    Dec-06-2017

Clinton High’s nationally recognized Attaché Show Choir takes the stage for its annual Fall Revue Dec. 6-9 at Clinton High School’s auditorium. Performances begin each evening at 7:30.

The 38th Attaché Fall Revue will debut a preview of Attaché’s 2018 Competition Show – The Beatles. This will be a historic trip about the number one rock group of all time!

Also featured will be songs from the popular broadway musicals “Rent,” “Jersey Boys,” and “Grease.”

“We want the Fall Revue to honor the 19 years of Attaché summer musicals,” says Attaché Director David Fehr. “We have current Attaché alumni performing on Broadway, the Grand Ole Opry, Branson, Chicago, and choreographing and teaching all over the United States.”

Over the course of the WednesdayThursdayFriday and Saturday evening performances, the Attache’ Fall Revue will provide an opportunity for the Clinton community and families in the Jackson area to catch the show choir before they begin competition season in early 2018.

America’s premier show choir will compete at the South Central Classic in Homewood, Ala., the Petal Invitational in Petal, and Xtravaganza in Los Alamitos, California. Attaché will also once again serve as host of the Show Choir Nationals which is held annually at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

Attaché has amassed one of the most impressive competition records of any other show choir in America. Since 1992, Attaché has won 74 Grand Champion titles and earned the number No. 1 spot in the 2017 and 2016 National Show Choir Rankings. During the Fehrs 25 years of leadership, the show choir has never lost a competition in Mississippi or the South.

“One of the reasons our program is so successful is because of our community, school district, and parents,” Fehr said. “Without their support, our program would not exist.”

Attaché is composed of 46 singer/dancers, 15 pit members, and 14 crew members. Attaché is led by directors David and Mary Fehr, pit director Robert Allen, and crew director Deborah Morgan. Choreographers include April James, Stephen Todd, Dexter Bishop, Kellis McSparrin Oldenburg, and Harley McAlexander. Allen ’98, James ’94, Bishop ’04, Oldenburg ’06, and McAlexander ’05 are Attaché alumni.

  • Brick Street Jingle offers Specialty Shopping, family fun
    6:00 pm-9:00 pm
    Dec-14-2017

After-hours holiday shopping in Olde Towne now has a name as well as a date. The newly-christened Brick Street Jingle – just in time for Christmas, of course – will coax shoppers to the quaint heart of Clinton to take care of business.

Brick Street Jingle is 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, with more than a dozen Olde Towne businesses extending hours for the convenience of Christmas shoppers. Some have activities planned, too, for an additional enticement, such as letter-writing to Santa at Posh and ornament-making at Good Citizen.

“We want people to come and shop, but we are hoping to engage families by having these extra events going on inside each business,” said Anna Boyd Hawks, assistant director of Main Street Clinton and Good Citizen owner.

Brick Street Jingle gives a little leeway to customers who might not otherwise find the time to fit in Olde Towne shopping in Clinton, perhaps because they work out of town.

“It’s just giving them an opportunity to invest and shop local,” Main Street Clinton executive director Tara Lytal said.

Organizers are excited that the concentration of shops in Olde Towne is now sufficient to warrant such an event.

“When there were just a couple of them down here, it was tough. But now that there’s a cluster of them, it’s enough for people to view it as a destination, and we’re getting the traffic needed,” Lytal said.

“Retail events like this work when they have that ‘mall without wall’s feeling.” Multiple businesses with later hours for the Jingle will justify the draw downtown, and it’s one more way to maximize that Olde Towne pull as Christmas decorations and music add another layer of charm.

“Hopefully, people will take an opportunity to come and maybe even dine local and then stroll and spend a little time, weather permitting,” Lytal said. “You can certainly walk from business to business, and just soak it all in and get that small town feel…You’re benefiting from having that extra time to shop, but you’re also benefiting our local retailers, too, by keeping money in our community.” Several will have special promotions in place during the event.

It’s a chance to check out new retailers who’ve joined Olde Towne in the past year, too. Good Citizen carries handcrafted goods, local art and fair trade items. Winstead’s focuses on men’s clothing and accessories.

“It’ll give people an opportunity to just see what’s down here,” Lytal said, and make a whole evening out of it, dining local included.

“So often, shopping is not enjoyable, especially during the holidays, because it’s crowded” and stressful, said Jonathan Nutt, who with his wife, Anna, owns James & Leigh and Ellie’s of Olde Towne. “But it should be enjoyable, and fun for people, and doing it in Olde Towne is a great way to find things you won’t find at the mall, and also get that personal touch. Someone says ‘Merry Christmas; as you walk out the door.”

Meme’s Brick Street Bakery owner Theresa Smith is still mulling what activity she’ll offer for family fun during the Brick Street Jingle.

“People think, oh, what can I get from a bakery? But we have a lot of little happies that are cute for children and for teachers and co-workers.”

She’ll also have hot chocolate for the crowd, and an activity that all can be involved in.

“We’re all about families, and try to keep it where everybody can participate.”
Paxton Peak Outfitters’ Beth Shores will wrap in her store’s outdoors focus, and she hopes shoppers will camp out there for a while at the Brick Street Jingle.

“We’re going to cook some marshmallows that night, so everyone can experience a good winter event. Also, it’s totally a camping thing.”

Tasting Europe with Deck the Trails

We are excited to kick-off our Deck the Trails Celebration with our first Wine Tasting on Thursday, December 14, 2017! Registration for this event is now open.

      Tickets are $40 per person

Title: The Abridged History of Wine! Based on ancestral tales and scientific evidence, approximately 10,000 years ago along the eastern shores of the Black Sea, man discovered an intoxicating liquid based on the fermented juice of grapes. Join geologist, certified sommelier, and wine instructor John Malanchak as we reflect on key religious and political events that impacted the migration of wine throughout the Old and New World. Finally, learn how climate change is impacting the wine industry.

During our presentation, we will taste a select wine from the major wine producing countries of Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Business casual attire is encouraged. Bring your walking shoes and enjoy the beautifully lit trails and other attractions of Deck the Trails!

Thank you to our Business Sponsors, The Wine Cellar, Get Out The Map Travel Company, and The Froghead Grill!
