  • New Names to be Added to the Walk of Honorees

    On Thursday, March 11, at 11:00 a.m., the City of Clinton has chosen to honor Clintonians who have been recognized for achievements of excellence in their field at the local, state, or national level. These eleven individuals either grew up in Clinton or spent time in Clinton during the span of their achievement of excellence in their area of expertise.

    The recipients include the following: Dr. Virgil Belue, Dr. Walter Howell, David and Mary Fehr, Rick Anderson, Guy Williams, Calvin Smith, Niesa Johnson, Jerod Ward, Randy Bell, and Brittany Wagner.

    This event will be celebrated in an outdoor setting with the recipients, their families, and the Clinton community. A bronze plaque describing each honoree’s story will be unveiled on the one-mile Walk of Honorees Trail at the Quisenberry Library, located at 605 East Northside Drive.

    The event will follow the CDC and State Health Department COVID-19 outdoor event regulations and guidelines.

  • Clinton Alderman Debate

    The League of Women Voters of the Jackson Area is sponsoring candidate debates for the upcoming municipal election. The debates will occur one ward at a time and will be livestreamed on Facebook.

    The questions will be compiled by a committee of the League and Randy Bell will serve as moderator. The questions will be on topics of concern such as public safety and economic development.

    This debate will feature the Republican candidates only since the Democrat candidates are running unopposed. Once the primaries are complete, the debate for the general election will be scheduled.

    Clinton Mississippi History Week

    March 11-13 is Clinton History Week, filled with events, exhibits, tours, and lectures highlighting the rich history of Clinton.

    Visit the Olde Towne Depot March 11-13 to experience “Faces: Portraits and Personalities of Clinton’s Rail History.” This exhibit displays the portraits of Clintonians that impacted Clinton’s Railroad and is available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    The unveiling of the 2021 Honoree Plaques at the Walk of Honorees Trail will take place on Thursday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. This event honors Clintonians who have been recognized for achievements of excellence in their field and will be commemorated on the Walk of Honorees Trail at the Quisenberry Library.

    CHECK OUT: Clinton History Tour Aboard Turner the Train

    Following the Walk of Honorees Ceremony, Dr. Prentiss Cox will lead a tour of the historic site of Sumner Hill and detail the history of the old Natchez Trace. The tour will begin at the Quisenberry Library and end at the Clinton Community Nature Center, located at 617 Dunton Road. The tour will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11.

     

    On Saturday, March 13, take a ride aboard Turner the Train for Main Street’s Clinton History Tour. Tours will depart from the Olde Towne Depot at 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Guests will enjoy an open-air ride through Clinton while learning about the colorful history of the community. Seats are limited and reservations are encouraged. To make a reservation, call Main Street at 601.924.5472.

    If you, your civic group, or church group need some volunteer hours, this is the perfect opportunity to volunteer and help make Olde Towne more beautiful!

  • Youth tennis lessons-Brighton Park

    Once again, the Clinton Parks and Recreation Department and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) will be partnering to provide youth tennis lessons for children at Brighton Park.

    Lessons will take place on Saturdays from March 27  through May 8 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., with no  lessons on April 3. 

    USTA’s “Ready to Rally” and “Ready to Play”  tennis programs provide children the opportunity  to learn the game of tennis from certified tennis professionals in a fun and engaging environment. 

    Cost for the tennis lessons is $58. 

    The sessions will consist of basic demonstra tion and instruction of tennis techniques, as well  as game strategy and scoring. Loaner rackets will  be available.
