MSO Presents an Evening of Mendelssohn

MSO Concertmistress, Marta Szlubowska Featured In Popular Violin Concerto

On Saturday, January 28 at 7:30pm, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents Bravo! Mendelssohn! at Thalia Mara Hall. Experience Mendelssohn’s uncanny ability to capture picturesque images in music, from his Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage Overture to the Scottish Symphony, which depicts the mysterious landscape of the Scottish moors.

Also, featured is the infectious beauty and energy of his popular violin concerto in the hands of MSO’s own concertmistress, Marta Szlubowska. “The e-minor violin concerto is a mature work and is in fact Mendelssohn’s last symphonic work. Each time I perform this concerto, it is a new love affair. This popular concerto has none equal in its beauty, instrumental purity and virtuosity, as well as wonderful balance between intimate emotion and outward joy and spirit. The interplay between the soloist and the orchestra is magical. I look forward to sharing this lovely work with our audience,” says Marta Szlubowska, MSO Concertmistress.

Dr. Timothy Coker gives a complimentary pre-concert lecture 6:45-7:15 pm on the Mezzanine level of Thalia Mara Hall.

Tickets for Bravo! Mendelssohn! begin at $23 for adults and $5 for students. Advance tickets may be purchased on-line at www.msorchestra.com, by calling (601) 960-1565, or by visiting the MSO office at 201 East Pascagoula Street in downtown Jackson between 9am and 5pm from Monday 2 to Friday.
