Featuring Sydney Kirk Patti and Bobby Jack Parks

Friday Nights at Milepost 89 on October 21 will feature Sydney Kirk Patti and her grandfather Bobby Jack Parks as the upcoming headliner at the Clinton Visitor Center Weekend Music Scene. Friday Nights at Milepost 89 is held every third Friday of the month at 7 p.m. Admission to each performance is at least 89 cents. This will be the last performance for the 2016 season.

Sydney Patti’s young life was spent with grandparents and as a result her love for music developed from singing and playing with her “Paw Paw.” At an early age, she began taking private violin lessons, which continued for several years. Violin instructors tried to teach her to read music; but, since she played by ear, she was considered to be a difficult student. She plays the violin, guitar and other stringed instruments.

Bobby Jack Parks has been playing music since his teens, and he is self-taught.  In the early 1950s, his band played every Saturday afternoon live from WHOC, in Philadelphia, Mississippi. He plays the guitar and mandolin.

Both musicians are members of the “Shade Tree Musicians,” which play every Sunday afternoon during the month (except the first Sunday) at the Visitor Center.

This summer, Patti’s first CD was produced with her grandfather, called Paw Paw & Me, featuring country and religious music. Their performance will include some songs from the CD like, “Faded Love,” “Boil ’em Cabbage Down,” “Amazing Grace,” and “What A Friend.”

The Visitor Center covers all genres of music including folk, country, bluegrass, string band music and gospel.  For more details about the Saturday and Sunday music performances, call 601-924-2221.

The Clinton Visitor Center is located at 1300 Pinehaven Road at Milepost 89 on the Natchez Trace Parkway.
