Technology and Its Impact on Education
Technology has become a paramount part of society within the last fifty years. It needs to be incorporated into learning as much as possible. It can and will create a better learning environment by forcing kids to be more engaged and interactive while learning subjects by using phones, tablets, and computers. Doing this will give children the ability to gain knowledge on technology, which can help them with their future, especially if they decide to pursue an occupation in technology. This will, in turn, give them easy access to information and opportunities that can make learning fun. Technology will give them instant access to almost any subject and source when they need it, regardless of where they are, giving them the ability to learn outside of school easier. Students who are interested in learning an art can use either a tablet or computer to draw and color. They can use technology to create music, their own videos, or even write an essay (Toulmin essay, TOK essay, MLA outline, etc).
Another accomplishment technology can achieve is that it can incorporate different learning styles, such as teachers being able to quickly modify their lessons based on each student’s strengths and interests. This will then help students learn now and in the future. Teachers can boost children’s curiosity through technology. With engaging content, kids can become hooked on a subject and, much like most kids in today’s age, will use their technology to pursue these interests. By requiring the use of technology in the classroom, it will demand less and less use of books and paper, which will make a positive impact on the environment. Teachers can also include the use of YouTube videos, Spotify podcasts, or maybe even an educational YouTuber that the kids have already been accustomed to. They can even incorporate their videos of themselves, the teacher, teaching a subject to better engage with students. In turn, kids can submit their own educational videos or maybe even a podcast of them talking about a subject they are interested in. Teachers can use the use of technology to make their jobs easier and save tons of time by uploading their programs and courses to the cloud or an app so the kids can access it when they need it.
Special education students can benefit the most from technology by using educational games from other websites. It can help them become a better reader by highlighting certain words or reading the content out loud to them allowing them to consume more content in a faster amount of time. Visual learning through videos allows them to have a more hands-on learning ability and gives teachers a more flexible way to work with these special needs children. It can point out spelling mistakes to them and teach them how to write correctly based on those mistakes. Having technology in every classroom can make them feel more included because they will be learning the same way as their peers, through technology. The use of tablets and computers can help them with their motor impairments improve their coordination. It has been proven that autistic students learn better with technology, as many apps have already been made to help them with learning.
