Mississippi College has continued to compile track and field honors as the school saw four athletes earn Gulf South Conference (GSC) recognition this week. Tytavia Hardy was named Women’s Field Performer of the Week; Kelechi Christian was named Women’s Freshman of the Week; Jake Russell was named Men’s Track Performer of the Week; and Wesley Gibbs was named Men’s Freshman of the Week.

Hardy set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles at the Southern Miss Invite with a time of 13.97 seconds. The Pensacola native also helped the 4×100 meter relay (46.97) and 4×400 (3:50.34) meter relay teams set school records as well.

Christian was also a key member of the record-breaking 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay teams this weekend. The Lagos, Nigeria native was named Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive week.

Russell ran the GSC’s sixth-fastest 400 meter time at the Southern Miss Invite with a time of 49.25 seconds. The 2021 All-South Region selection was also a member of the 4×400 meter men’s relay team that ran the fastest time (3:13.88) in the GSC this outdoor season.

Gibbs joined Russell on the 4×400 meter relay team, whose time was also the ninth-fastest in the nation. He also finished in fourth-place in the 400 meters with a time of 48.72 seconds.

The Choctaws will be back in action today with a midweek meet at Hinds Community College.
