Class of 2027 commits to graduate
By Tammie Stephens
This year marks seven years that Sumner Hill Junior High School, the Clinton Public School District’s ninth-grade school, has held their Commit to Graduate ceremony. A commitment to graduate conveys a constant message to students of the importance of education, learning, and graduation. During this year’s ceremony, each student in the Class of 2027, which currently has the highest state test scores on both the ELA and the Math tests, was presented with a certificate signifying their commitment to graduate from high school, and they all signed a banner. The banner follows them to Clinton High School and will hang there until their graduation.
Guest speakers for the ceremony included the deputy director of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents and former CPSD assistant superintendent Mr Anthony Goins. Clinton High School Principal Dr. Brian Fortenberry and CPSD School Board Member Mrs. Paula DeYoung also shared encouraging words for the students.
