Nunn receives national certification

Courtney Nunn

Clinton’s Courtney Nunn has become only the eleventh parks and recreation director in Mississippi to receive a national certification.

“I’m excited that we now have that in Clinton,” Nunn says.

She spent several months studying for an exam which focused on communications, finance, park maintenance, operations and programming.

“It’s just extra education,” Nunn says. “It covers a little bit of everything.” And, by passing the exam, she becomes a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.

The certification is offered by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), a group which says it’s “dedicated to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation.” NRPA says the certification is “the national standard for all parks and recreation professionals who want to be at the forefront of their profession.” It says those who achieve the certification “illustrate [their] commitment to the profession and well as [their] knowledge and understanding of key concepts within parks and recreation.”

Nunn has been Clinton’s parks and recreation director since 2022.
