Funchess selected to serve as Lovett’s principal
During its February board meeting, the Clinton Public School District’s (CPSD) Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Dr. Demetria Funchess as Lovett Elementary School’s principal. Lovett is the CPSD sixth-grade school.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to continue this journey with people that are passionate about the success of our students,” Funchess said.

“Dr. Funchess has the experience and understanding of the culture at Lovett,” Clinton Public School District Superintendent Dr. Andy Schoggin said. “She knows the expectations set for students and faculty and will be an important figure in Lovett’s future excellence.”

Funchess, a longtime educator in Clinton, was recently awarded the district’s Administrator of the Year Award for the 2024-2025 school year.

Funchess has served as the assistant principal at Lovett since 2022 and will replace Dr. Michael Pope as the principal of the sixth-grade campus starting July 1, 2025.
