Op-Ed: I See You. I Hear You. I’m Running for You.

Op-Ed: I See You. I Hear You. I'm Running for You.
Before I ever stepped into a classroom as an educator, I cleaned office buildings to make ends meet. I started at the ground level and worked my way up—literally. From sweeping floors in my janitorial work to serving as a teacher assistant, and now working as a special education case manager, my journey has been shaped by perseverance, purpose, and most of all, people.

I’m a proud Jackson State University, Belhaven University, and Mississippi College graduate. But more than any degree, it’s my life experience that prepared me for this moment. I know what it feels like to work hard and still feel like your voice isn’t being heard. I know what it means to give your all and wonder if anyone notices. That’s why I’m running for Alderman of Ward 4, because I hear you. I see you. And I want to fight for you.

Some may point out that I don’t have political experience, and they’re right. But what I do have is a heart for people and a track record of showing up for them. I’ve helped conduct voter registration drives to make sure every voice has a chance to be counted. I’ve served meals at the Billy Brumfield homeless shelter, standing shoulder to shoulder with those in need. I’ve sat with parents to help them fight for the services and accommodations their children deserve in school. I don’t just talk about community, I serve it, consistently and with care.

I believe that leadership isn’t about knowing all the rules and procedures of government and politics; it’s about understanding the needs of the people and being willing to step up and do the work needed to get things done.

Clinton is a great city, but Ward 4 deserves more intentional leadership. We need leadership that’s visible, accountable, and deeply connected to the concerns of the people. My agenda as your next Alderman is rooted in action:

▪ Improve infrastructure through responsible planning and timely repairs to streets, drainage, and public spaces.

▪ Promote public safety by supporting first responders and strengthening partnerships between neighborhoods and law enforcement.

▪ Support small businesses and families by encouraging economic growth and ensuring city services work efficiently for everyone.

I’m not running for a title, I’m running because I want to do the work to make Clinton a better place for all of us. This isn’t just about policy; it’s about people. And I believe our community deserves someone who understands both the struggle and the strength it takes to build a better life.

This election is personal to me. I’m ready to put in the work, and I ask for your support and your vote.
