Hometown paper, Clinton students featured in production

Newsies, Jr. cast

Clinton’s hometown paper, The Clinton Courier, made a prominent and repeated appearance in the recent metro-area youth production of Newsies, Jr. The Rankin Performing Arts production starred two Clinton students, Charlie Parker and Isaiah Schellang-Stephens. Also, Clinton’s own Luke Parker, a student at Mississippi College, is the music director for Rankin Performing Arts and led the cast for Newsies, Jr. Performers from the metro area in grades six through twelve participated in the summer theatre workshop, which included the performance of the musical.

The Clinton Courier was selected to be their newspaper prop, and, as each character held it throughout the production, Clinton’s “Good News You Can Use” was spread to all who attended.

Newsies, Jr. is an adaptation of the Broadway musical inspired by the true story of the 1899 news boys strike in New York City.
