Lewis Furniture announces going out of business sale

Special to The Clinton Courier

Lewis FurnitureAfter sixteen years of serving the Clinton community, Lewis Furniture is preparing to close its doors — but owners Steve and Susan Lewis say they are not closing without offering local shoppers “an incredible opportunity.”

Following a brief closure from Monday to Wednesday, August 18-20, to prepare, the store will begin its Going Out of Business Sale on Thursday, August 21, with deep discounts throughout the showroom.

The Lewises say they originally considered calling it a retirement sale, since that’s truly what it is, but decided “going out of business” would better capture the community’s attention.

“The deals will be great,” they promised.

In addition to being a local furniture shopping staple since opening in Clinton, the owners say they built not only a loyal customer base, but also many friendships along the way.

“We have made so many wonderful friendships and acquaintances that will follow us from now on,” the Lewises said. “We have enjoyed tremendous support from the city of Clinton over the last sixteen years. We have tried to operate our business with integrity and strove to abide by the Golden Rule. We have been able to be a small part of people’s lives and shared in their celebrations and disappointments — and we are much better off for the experience.”

The decision to close comes as they prepare to move to Tennessee to be closer to family.

“We are moving to be with our three children and five – soon to be six – grandchildren,” they explained. “We want to be able to help with their development and be positive role models in their lives.”

Though they will be moving away, Steve and Susan Lewis still have extended family in the area and say they plan to visit often.

And, while they’re looking forward to this new chapter, they admit some things will be hard to leave behind.

“As most of you know, Newk’s has been our daily lunch spot for many years, so we are especially sad, because there are no Newk’s in that area of Tennessee — and we’re sure our friends at Newk’s will miss us, as well!”

The Lewis Furniture Going Out of Business Sale will feature storewide savings on furniture, with many one-of-a-kind items available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Lewises say that longtime customers — and anyone looking for a great deal — are encouraged to shop early for the best selection.

The store is located at 451 Highway 80 East. For more information, call 601-926-1696.
