Pickleball complex opens as park gets new name

By Randy Bell

Kids Towne ParkClintonians have known it for years as Kids’ Towne Park.

However, now that it’s much more than a playground, Clinton’s popular recreation area on Old Vicksburg Road has a new name—Towne Park. The playground will still be called Kids’ Towne.

“This has now become a park that offers something for everyone,” says Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Nunn, “so we felt it was important for the name to attract people of all ages to the park.”

“Towne Park felt right, because it still honors the original name but embraces change for the better.”

The state-of-the-art Towne Park pickleball complex had its long-awaited grand opening on October 18 featuring a “Fall into Pickleball” opening day mixer giving the community a chance to enjoy the new courts and meet other pickleball enthusiasts.Towne Park Pickleball courts

Nearby is Clinton’s Bark Park for dog owners and their pets, and there are plans for a skate park there. The City has also established the Firehouse Food Park in the parking lot of Fire Station 2 next door to the park.

“There are a lot of exciting improvements happening to this park, with so much more to offer than we have ever been able to there in the past,” says Nunn. And it was important, she says, to continue to have a playground called Kids’ Towne.

“I know it is a special name for a lot of people in the community.”
