“Candy Cane Lane” parade rolls at 10 a.m. on Dec. 6
Clinton residents of every stripe will turn out to enjoy the annual Clinton Chamber Christmas Parade, which this year rolls with a Candy Cane Lane theme.

Get hooked into the festive fun, at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 6. Sweet treats will doubtless be a key part of decorations and costumes.

“We hope all the participants go full out with a candy theme and that it’s reflected throughout the entire parade,” Clinton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Anna Nutt said.
“Having the parade the first Saturday morning in December is now such a tradition and staple that everyone comes together for the fun!”

This is the 51st year for the beloved community tradition that has delighted generations for decades.

“The best thing is the sense of community,” Nutt said. “This is something for everyone, whether you participate or just are a spectator. I grew up going to the parade, so it’s now fun to see it from a different perspective.” Expect plenty of Christmas joy and spirit, Nutt said.

The parade route starts on Morrison Drive and proceeds down Clinton Boulevard and College Street, and ends at Mississippi College’s A.E. Wood Coliseum. The parade opens with a police escort and the previous year’s grand champion float in the lead. Bringing up the rear in grand finale style is the welcome sight of Santa and Mrs. Claus on the fire truck.

In addition to floats from local businesses and organizations, the parade promises band participation from Clinton schools, Hinds Community College and Mississippi College.

“Last year, we had well over one hundred entries, and we expect the same – if not more – for this year,” Nutt said.

The parade not only greets the season – it can also spur the shopping as the holidays kick into high gear.

“I hope people are already out and about and choose to eat or shop after and help boost the local economy!” Nutt said.

Applications for parade entry are $35 (three entities per application allowed). For more information, call the Clinton Chamber of Commerce at 601-924-5912.
