ARROW BASEBALL TEAM STILL BATTLING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT

With only 3 weeks left in the regular high school baseball season, the Clinton Arrow baseball team is still in contention for a playoff spot.
Making the playoffs will not be easy though. Clinton’s two loses to rival and region foe Madison Central, this past week dropped the Arrows to 12-6, but more importantly to 3-3 in the tough region Region 2-7A standings. The Arrows fell to the Jaguars at Madison 9-3, on March 23rd ,and 10-3 at Clinton on March 27 th at Arrow Field.
With only 4 playoff spots open, Oxford, Madison Central, and Germantown are all tied in region play for first place with 4-2 region records. Clinton and Starkville are tied for second place with 3-3 records in region play. Clinton chances of qualifying for the playoffs hinge on 4 remaining region games over the next 2 weeks. CHS plays Oxford away on March 31 st, and at Arrow Field on Good Friday April 3rd . The Arrows end region play at Starkville on April 7th and at home against Starkville on April 10th .
Clinton at least probably needs to split the remaining Region 4 games left, or possibly go 3-1 against Oxford and Starkville depending on how the other region teams finish.
The Arrows gave up the most runs of the season in the loses to Madison Central, who won the MHSAA Class 7A Championship a year ago. “We just picked the wrong time of the season to not play well,” said Arrow head baseball coach Sam Temple. “We got a lot of work to do to play better.” In the loss at Clinton, the Arrows gave up 2 runs in the first inning to the Jaguars, but came back and tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning.
Pearl River Community College signee, Stone Crain doubled and scored Parker Burrow. Wes Warren singled and scored to tie it. After a scoreless 3 rd inning, Madison Central scored 3 runs to make it 5-2 in thefourth and scored 4 more runs in the 5 th to go ahead 9-2
Clinton didn’t score a run again until bottom of the 5 th when Ryder Wilson scored. The Arrows had singles from Chad Bates, Ethan Dodson,and Ryan Saxton. Arrow starting pitcher, Brady Holmes, threw 94 pitches, with 59 strikes. He has 5 strike outs and gave two walks and scattered 4 hits.Gage Temple,
Burrow,Jackson, and Jake Bell all threw in relief over the final 3 innings. Madison Central ace Tucker Rice threw 80 pitches with 46 strikes, He struck out 3 walked 3 and scattered 5 hits.
