Special to The Clinton Courier
Clinton High School sophomore Kushal Mannam recently finished as the runner-up in the MHSAA Class 7A Boys Singles Tournament at Halls Ferry Park in Vicksburg.
Mannam reached the championship match with a pair of notable victories. He outlasted Ocean Springs’ Patrick Bingham seven-five, six-seven (six), ten-six in a three-hour quarterfinal match, then defeated Northwest Rankin’s Carter Do six-one, six-two in straight sets in the semifinals.
In the title match, Mannam fell to Madison Central’s Philip LeRoux three-six, three-six to claim second place in a competitive Class 7A field.
“I am incredibly proud of this sophomore and his hard work this year,” Clinton head tennis coach Patrick Griffith said.
Mannam was joined in the individual tournament by Clinton’s mixed doubles team of Kinley Brooks and Ethan Rone, who advanced to the semifinals on the tournament’s first day.
Overall, the Clinton tennis program recorded eleven match victories during the 2026 season and earned a berth in the first round of the MHSAA Class 7A playoffs.
As inflation continues to affect everything from groceries to utilities, the Healthplex’s decision reflects a broader reality facing businesses both large and small — including those at the heart of communities like Clinton.
