The Clinton High School Arrow football program celebrated seven student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent recently during a ceremony in the Clinton High School auditorium.
Clinton Head Football Coach Hamer Morgan said the occasion marked one of the most significant moments in the student-athletes’ lives and a testament to their perseverance.
“It’s a big day, one of the biggest days of their lives,” Morgan said. “When you look at this group, it hasn’t always been easy for them. They just kept working and kept working, especially in the offseason. They put good stuff on film that college coaches liked, and I really believe most of their best football is still ahead of them.”
Davon Merchant signed with Jackson State University (JSU), Jaiden King committed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) and Miles Bass sealed his decision to continue his career at Southwest Mississippi Community College (SMCC). Braylen Spann will take his talents to Hinds Community College (HCC), and
Donovan Shaifer signed with East Central Mississippi Community College (ECCC). Christian Cavett and Ashton Nichols rounded out the group, inking with Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC).
While the seven signees will leave behind a void on the field next season, Morgan noted their impact reaches beyond talent alone.
“Their talent is one big thing, but it’s also the standard that they set,” Morgan said. “Not all of them started as sophomores, and not all of them played a lot as juniors, but they stayed committed and kept working. Now, they’re getting rewarded for it.”
The signees were joined by family members, teammates, coaches and supporters as they officially took their next step in their football and academic journeys.
