Clinton vs. Clinton citywide reading challenge kicks off
This summer, Clinton, Mississippi, has been invited to compete with six other cities named Clinton in the United States – a friendly competition to see which “Clinton” adults can read the most this summer. The contest, which runs from May 25 through August 31, invites readers ages 18 and up to join the effort to help put “the ‘Sip” on top!
Participants read throughout the summer and log their reading in the online reading log system Beanstack. ALL reading counts, including print books, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines, e-books and graphic novels.
For this challenge, one page equals one minute, making it easy to log any format.
Quisenberry Library’s Summer Reading Program runs through July 10, and adults may participate in both programs at the same time. Reading only needs to be entered once in Beanstack for it to count towards both Summer Reading and the Clinton Reading Challenge.
Every entry helps the library represent Clinton, Mississippi, against other Clinton libraries across the country.
Other Clintons that are participating include those in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Iowa and Indiana. Statistics will be posted regularly, so each town can see how they are faring in relation to other Clinton readers across the country. The challenge is split into “rounds,” and readers are encouraged to log reading hours each week; hours should not be held until the end to log in the system. All time for each round must be entered within the round period in order to count.
The library will submit totals after each round, and reading statistics will be posted after every round, so participants can follow Clinton’s progress throughout the summer.
Quisenberry Library officials say that Clinton has truly stepped up for this challenge, with many local businesses donating gift cards and other items, which will be combined into one large grand prize awarded to the participant who reads the most during the challenge. Prizes will be highlighted on Quisenberry Library’s Facebook and Instagram throughout the summer.
To join the challenge, visit JHLibrary.BeanStack.com, where readers can create an account or log in. Once logged in, the option to join the “Clinton Challenge – Mississippi” will be available. Once a user joins the challenge, the opportunity to log reading hours begins Monday, May 25.
