An expanded large-print collection will highlight upcoming book sales sponsored by the Friends of the Clinton-Quisenberry Library, which will also feature many books of all types. Sale dates closing out the year are November 6 and 7 and December 4 and 5.
Donations from home libraries enrich the monthly book sales, with recent donations from weeded library shelves adding to the great inventory. Friends members have worked industriously on sorting and placing the books. The large-print collection represents a special offering for the sales, says Katherine Hand, one of the Friends members setting up the sales area.
Held the first Friday and Saturday of each month, the Friends sales are supported by Kim Ellington, library branch manager, and her staff. Donations from the sales provide funds for unbudgeted library needs.
“Persons who appreciate books and attend the sales make the fund-raising project successful,” says Diane Eubanks, a former president of the Friends board and a longtime member.
Many different subjects and titles are offered on the book sale shelves. The usual price is five dollars for a bag of books, with a reduced price for a shopper who does not fill a bag.

Large-print book shelves are ready for book sale November 6-7.
“We love to see books leaving the sale with happy readers,” says Hand, a retired librarian.
Among books for the upcoming sale is Christy Jordan’s Southern Plate, a handsome volume billed as classic comfort food that features essays interspersed with favorite recipes. Other titles are Pillsbury’s Bake Off Breads Cook Book, filled with recipes sporting a handsome cover; Southern Living 2010 Annual Recipes sharing over 750 recipes; and a Paula Deen periodical entitled Quick & Easy Meals. A different genre includes Dr. Carol Wiley Cassella’s Oxygen, an intriguing medical mystery. Murder at Holly House by Denzil Meyrick entertains the reader with a lovable but bumbling British police inspector often at odds with his critical village vicar father. A number of readable paperback books are described as “larger print,” with the description promising “heartwarming inspirational romance.”
“A book sale is a great place to make new friends and greet old friends,” says Gloria Wright, a former president and secretary of the Friends board. “It’s a wonderful way to get involved in this very special program of support for our library.”
Helen Blackwell is president of the board; Kathy Buckley is treasurer and Angie Abbott, secretary. Members are Diane Eubanks, Gloria Wright, Katherine Hand, Carolyn Johnson, Carol Pate, Sherri Ottis, Marilyn Hathcock, Susan Newman and Lauren Parry.
Anyone who wishes to be a part of the Friends organization is encouraged to contact a member of the board or leave a telephone number at the circulation desk of the library.
