The Credit Unions of Mississippi are treating the first 2,500 guests to a free day at the zoo on April 15 to celebrate Youth Savings Month.
April is National Credit Union Youth Month. The Credit Unions of Mississippi want to celebrate by giving back to the community and offering free admission to the zoo, as well as offering financial literacy for attending youth. There will also be activities and games, such as an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, face painting and more. There will be a scavenger hunt for guests to visit each credit union booth and one lucky winner will receive a $250 cash prize.
This year’s Youth Month theme is “Give a Hoot About Saving” and features fun, educational materials for children to learn about saving. AVP of Marketing at Members Exchange Credit Union, Angela Mitchell said she is excited for this year’s Youth Month theme and believes this will help deliver the message to children in a creative way.
“The zoo provides the perfect venue for families to enjoy a fun day in nature, while also learning about financial literacy,” Mitchell said. “And the best part is it’s a free event for the community!”
This is the third year in a row that Mississippi Credit Unions have hosted CU at the Zoo. Last year’s attendance was a little over 2,500 and we’re hoping to meet or exceed this goal for 2017.
The Jackson Zoo’s Special Events Manager, Toni Francis said she believes this is a great opportunity for guests to visit the zoo.
“We are excited to welcome back the Credit Unions of Mississippi for a 3rd Annual CU at the Zoo event. The zoo is a wonderful educational venue and we are glad they have chosen to host their event here and combine their efforts with ours to educate Mississippi’s youth,” Francis said.
The zoo will be open regular admission hours 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The first 2,500 guests to arrive will be admitted at no charge. Credit Unions will be on-site with activities from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
There are 10 credit unions participating in this event: Jackson Area Federal Credit Union, Statewide Federal Credit Union, Members Exchange Credit Union, Hope Credit Union, Mississippi Federal Credit Union, Magnolia Federal Credit Union, Eagle Express Federal Credit Union, Rivertrust Federal Credit Union, Mutual Credit Union and CommFirst Federal Credit Union.
