CHS Senior Competes to be on World Championship Team!

The 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships are underway at the Indiana University Natatorium.

Thirty Olympic medalists from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio will be competing this week at Nationals, vying for spots on the U.S. roster for the 2017 FINA World Championships, to be held July 23-30 in Budapest.

Also in the mix will be a group of hungry up-and-comers looking to establish themselves as swimmers to watch in the next three years heading into the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Blaise Vera is just 16 years old but the Clinton High School senior is participating in the Championships this week! He’s only been swimming for three years.

Blaise is currently competing at the Phillips 66 Championship meet in Indianapolis. He had a great swim in the 100 freestyle and swam a 50.73 which puts him 10th in the country for 18 and under in that event. He was first in his heat.

His big event will be Saturday when he swims his 50 freestyle. He’s seated 8th in the 18 and under and is trying to make the Jr World team as this is World and Jr World trials. Everything is being streamed on usaswimming.org, so be sure to watch and support a fellow ARROW!

UPDATE: Blaise took 5th place in the 50 freestyle finals for the 18 and under heat at the Phillips 66 National Championships! He swam a 23.16. His next big meet will be the US Open in New York this August where he gets to swim this race again.
