No. 12 ranked Eagles come from behind to stay undefeated; Beat Co-Lin 16-15

RAYMOND- The No. 12th ranked Hinds football team continued their winning ways Thursday night in exciting fashion, scoring a touchdown on a kickoff return in the final minutes of the game to beat Copiah-Lincoln Community College 16-15 and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Co-Lin jumped out to a 10-0 lead that they held until Eagle quarterback, Eric Clark (Kemper), connected with Stephen Guidry (New Roads, La.) for the 16-yard touchdown pass with just 4:53 remaining in the first half.

After the score, the Eagle defense did what it has done all year long and forced and recovered a fumble to give the ball back to the offense. Sophomore kicker, Spencer Cole (Flowood), would convert that turnover into three points as he delivered a 22-yard field goal through the uprights to tie the game with :29 seconds left in the half.

With 4:28 remaining in the third quarter, Hinds was called for intentional grounding in their own end zone, which resulted in a safety and gave Co-Lin a two-point lead.

After multiple, great defensive stands by both teams, Co-Lin scored again on a 43-yard field goal to increase their lead to 15-10 with 6:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Enter DeMichael Harris (Vicksburg).

On the ensuing kickoff, Harris fielded the bouncing kick on his own 9-yard line and majestically returned it 91 yards for the touchdown to give the Eagles the lead, 16-15 with 6:45 left in the game.

Co-Lin would have one more opportunity, but missed on a 38-yard field goal attempt to seal the victory for the Eagles.

“I was determined to get in the end zone, and I just wanted to make a play for the team,” said Harris following his game-winning return.

Although the Eagles were outgained 373 yards to 173 yards, they found a way to make plays when it mattered the most.

“Our guys just play hard and play together. At the end of the day we just made a play and got the win,” said head coach Larry Williams.

The Eagles will look to stay undefeated as they take on East Central at home next Thursday, Oct. 12th at 7 p.m. on Gene Murphy Field at Joe Renfroe Stadium in Raymond, Ms.
