Walmart and Sam’s Club fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) are now underway.

Customers and members can conveniently donate $1 or more when they check out at any Walmart or Sam’s Club location now through Oct. 29.

Money raised goes directly to benefit the sick and injured kids treated at Batson Children’s Hospital. Fund are used to pay for equipment, research, supplies and a variety of other patient needs.

“We want to supply what’s needed to help kids get well,” said Ricky Sharp, a driver for Walmart’s distribution center in Brookhaven. “Nothing is greater than being able to give back and be a miracle for children.”

Marty Stroud, service operations manager at the Brookhaven facility, said organizers hope to raise $25,000 with a truck-driving championship, held earlier this month.

Walmart and Sam’s club are closing in on the $1 billion fundraising mark for CMN Hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.

The 2016 campaign raised more than $187,000 for Batson Children’s Hospital.

“Walmart is our top fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every year,” said Jen Hospodor, UMMC director of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and community-based fundraising, “and every year, they do an outstanding job, enthusiastically supporting Batson Children’s Hospital.”

Stroud, who has chaired Walmart and Sam’s Club efforts for CMN Hospitals in the area for the past seven years, said supporting Batson Children’s Hospital is a choice that hits close to home for him and his coworkers.

“We always want to support Batson Children’s Hospital,” he said. “I have grandchildren, and if they needed medical care, I want that to be ready and available. We want the best care for all Mississippi’s children.”

Walmart and Sam’s Club joined the CMN Hospitals fundraising family in 1987.

Customers and members can help spread the word about the campaign via social media using the hashtag #HelpKidsLiveBetter.
