Clinton’s first YOGA for a Cure will take place Saturday, January 27th at the Alumni Gym on the campus of Mississippi College. All are invited. The purpose of the event is to raise public awareness and offer encouragement to those who have been affected by cancer, whether personally or through a loved one. A well-known yoga sequence called Sun Salutations will be used. While Sun Salutations can be practiced any time and with any frequency, practicing 108 Sun Salutations is traditionally reserved for a change of seasons. Since a cancer diagnosis introduces a different season to one’s life, the event will use Sun Salutations to celebrate cancer Survivors, to raise awareness of those fighting this disease, and to honor those for whom we grieve. During the event, the 108 flows will be divided into 4 intervals with breaks in between. Participants are encouraged to do whatever number of Salutations they are able, whether that is 27, 54, or all 108.
For those who are new to yoga or needing alternative movements, an introductory session will take place from 8:00-8:45 AM. The main event will begin at 9:00 AM.
Registration for the event is $25 and registrants will receive a long-sleeved t-shirt. Shirts are guaranteed for those who register on or before January 20. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life of Hinds County.
