Olde Towne After Hours

Every second Thursday local businesses along the Brick Streets open their doors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. This event is hosted by Main Street Clinton and is one that gives Clinton residents and Mississippi College students an opportunity to shop after normal business hours. Olde Towne After Hours hosted many from the Clinton community. “It’s nice being able to stop by after attending class and working all day,” Amy-Lynn Freeman said, while warming her hands by the fire pit outside of Paxton Peak. Freeman spends much of her time downtown to support Clinton’s local businesses.

This event is a monthly occurrence that attracts locals to bring their business downtown. Ashley Robinson and her husband both spent time walking through the many stores that were open. The Robinsons experienced Olde Towne After Hours for the first time on March 8. As the fire pit warmed the shoppers, both Ashley and Stuart roasted marshmallows for their smores.

Many store were open for this event; including, 303 Jefferson, James & Leigh, Paxton Peak, Posh, Good Citizen and many more. Beth Shores, owner of Paxton Peak walked through the store greeting customers. “This is a great atmosphere and fun event for everyone,” she said. The goal for Olde Towne After Hours is to bring in individuals who are not able to shop at regular business hours. “We hope to have this every Thursday night, so there is something always going on,” she added. Shores believes this gives her chance to meet new and first time customers whom she may have not had the chance to meet before.

Good Citizen had many shoppers come through the store in the after hours special. “This event gets more of the Clinton community involved,” Susan Boyd, employee at Good Citizen said,”It’s good for the community.

Clinton residents and MC students flooded in throughout the night to purchase food, clothing, and gifts in the after hours events. Each month, on the second Thursday, there will be Olde Towne After Hours for the small town of Clinton. “I love all that Clinton has to offer and the small town feel,” Freeman said.
