MC Sends Summer Missionaries
Mississippi Baptists send out missionaries from university campuses across the state. Each summer missionaries are sent all across the globe, serving in both international missions and stateside missions. There is a numerous variety of geographical areas that a university student can spend their summer. This program hits a little closer to home here in Clinton, Miss.
Mississippi College Baptist Student Union (BSU) participates in this program. This summer, BSU, is sending out twenty-five students ranging from freshman to graduating seniors. These students will be headed out as early as the end of May to their summer assignments. The students are broken up into two categories of stateside and international trips.
There are assignments that work specifically with children, youth, sports, international students, and church plants. There are thirty assignments for stateside summers and over fifthteen international trip assignments. Shonda Wesley, junior at Mississippi College is excited to go on summer missions. “I’m super pumped to be spending my summer sharing the Gospel with the children and teenagers of Cuba, New Mexico,” she said. Students work hard during the spring semester to prepare for the summer. They attend retreats, training sessions, and work on fundraisers for their trips.
The students from MC that will be serving their summer in the United States, have their basic expenses covered for their trips by Mississippi Baptists. Whereas the students who serve internationally, raise the majority of their funds for the trip. Applicants go through a long interview process at their local BSU, those who make it to the next stage then interview at the state level.
As many students go out from MC, they are leaving from the community of MC, but also the community of Clinton. Some of the students call Clinton home and will be serving their summer for what they believe in. These students represent Mississippi College and the small city that it resides in.
