Mississippi Boychoir Begins 24th Season of Youth Development

Mississippi Arts Commission Again Provides Invaluable Support

The Mississippi Boychoir is excited to begin the organization’s 24th season of growing the young boys of our state into the young men of our future. As our slogan says, Developing Talent | Building Character! And, once again, we are grateful for the generous support of the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC).

The Boychoir has always believed that simply being involved in an activity like ours engenders a spirit of teamwork and helps to develop a sense of leadership and accomplishment in our young men. This year, a $14,000 operating grant from MAC is helping us formalize the character-building side of our curriculum to provide lasting, measurable results.

As always, musical and cultural education are an important part of what we do as well. The skills our boys learn as members of the Mississippi Boychoir will enable them to follow in the footsteps of our alumni, who have gone on to careers as music teachers, church musicians and leaders of the arts in their communities.

“Without the Arts Commission, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” says Artistic Director Nancy Robertson. “Our policy has been never to turn away any talented boys because their families can’t afford tuition. Annual support from MAC helps us to cover that gap.”

Board President Ezra Wall agrees. “Mississippi has produced the great musicians of the world in all genres,” he says. “The Arts Commission has been the driving force behind the promotion of that work for many years.”

The Mississippi Boychoir is now scheduling auditions for the 2018-2019 season.
