Nikaylis Washington Signs with Northwestern State University

Hinds Lady Bulldogs standout Nikaylis Washington (McComb) signed a scholarship to continue her basketball career at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Washington became the first signee for Northwestern this spring and the first Lady Bulldog to sign with a NCAA Division I school this year.

During her sophomore season, Washington averaged 9 points per contest while shooting over 50% from the floor. She was a rebounding force for the Lady Bulldogs as well collecting 5.3 per game. Washington rounded her year-long performance by chipping at least one assist and one steal per game.

Her sophomore year was highlighted by a stellar performance against Baton Rouge Community College in which she posted 18 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 88% from the floor.

In her freshman year, Washington appeared 24 times in the Lady Bulldogs’ 16-9 season which ended with a second consecutive Regional appearance. Her year was highlighted by two double-digit scoring performances.

Washington will surely look to make an impact on the Northwestern women’s basketball team next season. Her rebounding tenacity and versatility will allow her to fit into the scheme of her new team.

Washington plans to major in health and exercise science in hopes of pursuing a career as a physical therapist.
