City of Clinton reviews options for rehabilitation of condemned historic buildings

Special to theclintoncourier.net

The Main Street Board of Directors held a meeting yesterday to discuss rehabilitation options during a limited time frame of 30 days for the condemned buildings at 110 & 112 Leake Street in Olde Town Clinton. The City of Clinton is seeking proposals for the purchase, rehabilitation, and redevelopment of the historic properties.

The Leake Street properties have historical importance to our community. The basement of 110 was the location of Senator Charles Caldwell’s murder in 1875. There was a bar located in the basement and Senator Caldwell was seated inside when he was shot from Jefferson Street through a window.

Interested parties may request a proposal packet containing all information at the office of the City Attorney at 300 Jefferson St. Clinton, MS or by emailing wpurdie@clintonms.org

You can also contact the Office of the City Attorney at 601-708-1470 to schedule a walkthrough of the property.
