The Hinds County Board of Supervisors Announces New Efforts to Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 by Providing Free Testing to Poll Workers

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors along with the Hinds County Election Commission will now be offering free testing to all poll workers with the help of a grant obtained by the Center of Technology and Civic Life.

Poll workers safety has long been a top priority for the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and the Hinds County Election Commission and remains as such. With the alarmingly increase in COVID cases in Hinds County, particularly in the Jackson area, both boards have collaborated to identify a proactive measure to address the issue related to poll worker safety.  This measure provides free testing for ALL poll workers who worked the Presidential election and our most recent Ward Two election. Both boards look to partner with Merit Health and TrustCare to administer testing to all poll workers before and/or after the election.   Hinds County Election Commission President, Toni Johnson said in a statement, “There are 108 precincts in Hinds County which will normally employee on average 750 poll workers doing any given election.  This is a great first step to insure the health and safety of our poll workers.”  Hinds County Board President,Robert Graham, said in his statement, “We look forward to working with the Election Commission and being the first in the Central MS area to provide free testing for poll workers”.

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors along with the Hinds County Election Commission encourages everyone to practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
