Important Things All RV Owners Should Know

We are, as this article is being written, in the midst of a global pandemic, and while vaccines are being rolled out, the numbers of those infected, seriously ill, and even dead, are growing exponentially. Because of this, countries and governments around the world have closed their doors to foreign tourists. This means that the foreign vacation is, for the foreseeable future, dead. If you want to forego the traditional international vacation and want to vacation domestically, though, then an RV might be just for you! Millions of Americans are packing up and hitting the road for a taste of the open road.

In this article, we are going to tell you some things that all RV owners should know. Whether this is your first time on the road, your second, or your hundredth, be sure to read this page in its entirety, because you might see something you did not know!

Here are some important things all RV owners should know.

Wiring and Electrical Systems

In an RV, you will have a lot of electrical wiring. This wiring will power your lights, bathroom, kitchen, and any electronic accessories that you have. As with any electrical wiring, there is always the chance that it could go wrong. It is important that, however, if it does, that you hire a professional to work with electricity safely, because if you are not trained, you can hurt yourself. Wherever you are – whatever town you are in, you should have access to a specialized RV electrician.

Tire Monitoring

When you are travelling open-country, you need to monitor your tires. When one of your tires goes on you halfway through, shall we say, the desert, you would be in a very awkward situation. You can get a number of gadgets and devices, however, that allow you to monitor your tires while you are on the road. These devices, the best of which are laser pointers, can instantly tell you everything that you need to know about your tires so that you can ensure your tires are fit to be on the road. Bring spares too.

Communication

When you are out on the road, you need to communicate and tell people where you are. When you are out in your RV, there is a very strong chance you will be deep in the middle of nowhere. Because of this, you need to keep in touch with your loved ones and always keep them updated with your location. If anything were to happen to you, they would be able to call the police and tell them of your last location, and where you are heading. Communication is key when you live in an RV.

Measurements

When you are travelling in an RV, it is important that you know your RV’s measurements. You do not want to drive under a bridge that is too low for you – that’ll be your entire vacation ruined. Take your measurements and memorize them. That way, if you come across any low bridges, you will be able to turn around and avoid them. Blindly going under bridges can be very dangerous and is often a cause for many accidents. Be vigilant, aware, and always have your measurements written down when you are travelling in your RV, new or old.

Boondocking

Boondocking, which is staying in car parking lots, may seem strange at first, but it will become second nature after a while. When you are out in an RV, you are not always guaranteed to find somewhere to stay – campgrounds may be closed, faraway, or not allowing visitors.

Boondocking will allow you somewhere to stay and get some shut-eye. Some car parks, however, do not allow boondocking, so it is important that you find only the ones that do to save yourself the trouble of being turned away or of having somebody wake you up and ask you to leave.

Planning

Planning your route is absolutely essential when you are out in your RV, travelling the open road. You should never embark on an RV journey without planning, otherwise, you may get lost, or may not have a good time. Planning is very important. Plan your journey meticulously and know exactly where you are going at all times. Many RVers do not plan their journeys, and it is these people who end up lost, in trouble, or out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. Plan every single detail of your journey down to the last letter.
