The Influence of Weather on Students’ Academic Performance

Being a student in college comes with many challenges. Especially if you are an international student looking for the best college to develop your knowledge and put the basis of your future career. Some students choose to study and get an education in a foreign country, where the educational system is more developed and aims to teach students practical information.

Every student wants to have a good university performance, to acquire as much information as they can, and to use it to kick start their future career. However, many factors could influence the performance of any student. And one of these factors is the weather.

The Impact of Weather on the Performance of Students

To be performant, you need to put in a lot of effort. You need to learn how to manage your time. You need to learn how to work in a team, research, and write essays. You learn a lot of things during your college years that could contribute positively to your academic performance. However, the weather is usually overlooked because no one thinks that it could indeed have an effect on students’ academic performance. But it does.

A recent study found that students can be efficient and learn productively in a room or class where the temperature is about 23 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit). The higher the temperature, the higher the decline in learning of students. This decline starts at 23.5 degrees Celsius and it seriously affects the power of concentration. It prevents students from focusing on the tasks they have, brainstorming, and involving in other cognitive processes. This is an important finding that sheds a light on the weather and environmental conditions that could support better learning.

But if you think that the colder the room you learn in, the better you will perform, you are wrong. There is an optimum temperature where students can concentrate and accomplish their tasks. If the temperature is below or above that, the decline in students’ learning abilities starts to happen.

Working on Homework

These temperature differences will be more and more frequent in many parts of the world. If some regions are protected, some are more exposed than others. And this will be a challenge both for international students who need to adapt to the local climate and residents. Working on your homework can turn out to be a real challenge, especially when your room does not have any air conditioning options.

High levels of humidity have been shown to make students lose their focus and have a hard time gathering all their cognitive resources to face the task at hand. In these conditions, it is difficult to live and learn. Many students feel defeated by these rapid temperature changes and feel that they do not have the resources to complete their homework. Many of them get homework help online from professional writers and other experts who are ready to share their experiences and knowledge.

The Productive Weather

As the latest research has shown that both very low and high temperatures harm the academic performance of students, you may start asking yourself a question. Which are the weather conditions that make you more productive? Well, one that has a humidity not too high because it is reducing the focus and vigor of students.

At the same time, even though some students can find their productivity and efficiency during rainy days, these are usually challenging. They come with moody emotions and feelings and less motivation to study. But this usually depends on each student. The weather that has been shown to have a positive influence on students’ academic performance is the sunny weather. Sunshine makes you feel better, be less stressed and anxious, and more able to focus on your tasks.

Conclusion

Even though it may be hard to believe, the local weather conditions influence your academic performance. When the temperature is either too high or too low, you will lose your focus and have a difficult time completing your homework. The same goes for a high percentage of humidity or when the weather is moody and chilly. Sunshine seems to be the perfect weather, the one that recharges your batteries and makes you less stressed and anxious.

I have always been interested in the correlation between weather, and climate, and the quality of academic instruction as well as student academic performance. I also believe that the climate of the college that one attends can influence tremendously studying habits and grades, etc. By that I mean the actual climate of the village/ town/ city of the college.itself. Of course there are other pertinent factors as well to be considered. This is a great article, I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you very much.
