By Datti Jinkiri

The GSC women’s volleyball coaches have picked Mississippi College to finish sixth in the conference this season. During the voting process, the Lady Choctaws accumulated 71 points.

The Lady Choctaws had a great Spring Championship Series, finishing with a 7-2 record. They tallied a second-place finish in Group A and topped Lee in straight sets before falling to Montevallo in the semifinals.

Junior Lexie Laurendine earned a spot on the Preseason All-GSC Team. She was a 2019 Second Team All-GSC selection and a member of the Spring Championship Series All-Tournament Team. Last spring, Laurendine finished top-ten in the conference in hitting percentage (.345), aces per set (0.61), and assists per set (6.09).

Freshman middle blockers Lydia Paulette (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and Julia Sumrall (Jackson, Miss.) were named as the Lady Choctaws’ top newcomers.

The Lady Choctaws will open their season with a September 7th road match against Arkansas-Monticello.
