The Mississippi College Men and Women’s soccer team both started their season this past weekend.
The Choctaws fell 1-0 in their season opener against Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Thursday night (Sept. 2). It was a tight game with each team getting some chances, but Nova Southeastern was able to find the back of the net first and finish the game ahead of the Choctaws. On Saturday evening (Sept. 4), the Mississippi College Men’s Soccer team fell 4-1 to Palm Beach Atlantic in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Choctaws fall to 0-2 (0-0 GSC).
Lady Choctaws also fell 1-0 in their season opener. The women’s soccer team was facing Queens University of Charlotte in Columbus, Ga. on Friday evening (Sept. 3). Queens got their goal very early in the 2nd half at the 47th minutes of the game. The Lady Choctaws made an intense push as they racked up 11 shots (5 on goal) between the 48th and 71st minutes, but couldn’t find the equalizer as several shots came close. On Sunday afternoon (Sept. 5), The Mississippi College Women’s Soccer team knocked off Rollins 2-1 in comeback fashion. After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, the Lady Choctaws were able to switch up the game and secure the 2-1 victory over Rollins. Avery and Erin Hederman both scored for the Lady Choctaws.
The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws will be back in action next weekend as they return to Clinton for their first home matches of the season. MC will host LSU-Alexandria on Friday afternoon (Sept. 10) for the Lady Choctaws’ home opener and Ouachita Baptist on Sunday (Sept. 12) for the Men’s team.
