Lady Choctaws move to 2-1 in GSC play

Mississippi College Lady Choctaws won their third straight game of the hoops season on Sunday, topping Montevallo 63-55. They improved their record to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the key road win.
Three Lady Choctaws scored in double figures, led by Alana Canady. The forward from Sherwood, Arkansas came off the bench to shoot five-for-seven from the field and score 14 points. She also made four-of-five free throws, including two key ones to give Mississippi College a three-possession lead late in the fourth quarter.
Freshman forward Amelia Bell scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the game. She currently leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game.
Ally Alford, the team’s leading scorer, chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Junior forward NeNe Williams did not score, but she grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Choctaws held the Falcons to just 27.8 percent shooting from the field. They also held them to a 16.7 clip from behind the arc. Mississippi College currently leads the Gulf South Conference in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 31.7 percent shooting this season.
Next Game
The defending GSC Champions will come to Clinton on Saturday, as the Lady Choctaws will host Union. Tip-off from A.E. Wood Coliseum is set for 2:00 p.m.
