BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, Mississippi College women’s basketball player Ally Alford earned a weekly award from the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The Batesville native was named GSC Freshman of the Week for her performance against nationally-ranked Union University.
The 5-6 guard scored a season-high 27 points on 40 percent shooting from the field. She also connected on an impressive seven of 13 shots from behind the arc, setting the Mississippi College single-game record for three-pointers made.
Alford currently leads the Lady Choctaws in scoring with 13.0 points per game. As evidenced by the Union game, she is deadly behind the arc and currently ranks third in the conference in three-point percentage (38.3 percent).
The Lady Choctaws currently sit in a tie for seventh in the GSC standings with a 7-5 (2-3 GSC) record. They will be idle until January 2nd, when they travel to Cleveland to face in-state rival Delta State.
