Why Is Bowling The Perfect Activity For You And Your Friends?

Bowling is one of those classic, all-American favorite pastimes. It’s great for people of all ages and backgrounds and is always a good time. Getting a strike can be super exciting, and teaching someone else how to play can be really satisfying. It’s filled with laughs and competitive fun. Here’s why bowling is the perfect activity for you and your friends.

1. It’s Easy

Bowling doesn’t exactly require the most physical exertion. This makes bowling one of the easier games to learn on the list of potential activities to do as a group. Someone who has never gone bowling before can pick it up and learn to bowl pretty quickly. The more you play, the better you get and those who aren’t super skilled can still have a great time improving their game on the lanes. One of the absolute best things, and the reason it is so easy, is because bowling alleys are typically judgment-free areas. Everyone is just there to have a good time and your skills won’t slow anyone else down.

2. Muscle Strength

Yes, we just said that bowling wasn’t the most physical activity out there, but in the same breath, bowling is a sport. The ball isn’t exactly the lightest thing in the world. The game requires a combination of lifting and bending, making use of your shoulders, arms, and legs in order to send the ball down the lane. Bowling strengthens all of these muscles and with time you’ll be able to bowl heavier balls.

3. Improved Flexibility

As you strengthen your muscles, you’ll find that you become more and more flexible. This is all part of getting better at the game. When you bowl you need to make use of a rather extensive range of motion. Lunging and twisting your body each time you bowl will lead to muscle stabilization which will help you balance and bowl even better. You’ll find that it can even help with flexibility in other aspects of your life.

4. Cardio

It’s a physical activity, so we’ve got to cover all the physical aspects of it. If you hate cardio and aren’t getting it done on a regular basis, head down to your closest bowling alley. On average, a bowler takes around 70 steps a minute. By the end of your bowling session, you’d have walked about half a mile and didn’t even feel it. This burns between 150 and 300 calories. This is the same amount of calories you’d burn jumping rope for 30 minutes, which is far less enjoyable.

5. Stress Relief

Now that we’ve covered all of the sports stuff, let’s get to the social side of things. Bowling is a great way for you to decompress after a long day and put yourself in a better state of mind. It really slows things down and lets you take a break from the bustle of other day-to-day activities. It gets your blood pumping and stimulates endorphins. This lowers the sad hormone in your body and reduces stress. This makes it a perfect activity for you and your friends to decompress after a long day and recharge.

6. Providing a Social Outlet

While you can definitely go to the bowling alley alone, it just isn’t the same. Going with friends, or going there to meet with bowling friends is important. Getting that social release is something we all need. We need to laugh, talk and have a good time with people who make us feel good about ourselves. If you are going alone, bowling alleys tend to have a variety of different ways you can grow your friendship group. Joining a league, tournament and other social bowling groups is a great way to meet people who share a similar interest and grow your relationships from there.

Bonus Point – It’s Inexpensive!

A lot of group activities and sports require you to invest in a lot of expensive equipment. There are also always other hidden costs. When it comes to bowling, you don’t have to get anything, unless you absolutely want to. Bowling alleys have everything you need in one place for a low price. You even get the choice of which bowling ball you bowl with. This is especially fun because you can choose a different one every time until you find one that you like best.
