City Clerk Wall announces his retirement
By Randy Bell
Clinton’s long-serving City Clerk will step down this spring. Russell Wall has announced plans to retire, effective March 31.
“I’ve got like twenty-nine years now in the [Public Employees Retirement] System, and I’m getting old. I’d like to do some traveling and stuff. That’s the big thing, trying to do it while I can. And so, I decided that it’s time.”
Wall has served as Clinton’s City Clerk and Chief Financial Officer since October of 2005 after four years in a similar position in McComb. He has a BPA degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University, is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Municipal Clerk-Collector. Wall has over thirty years of experience in accounting and auditing for government, banking, gaming and real estate investment trust companies.
The City has been advertising the clerk’s position.
“They’ll go through the regular process like they’ve done with other department heads and try to find someone new,” Wall says. “Hopefully, they’ll get [the new clerk] in before I leave, so that I can show them some of the things that they’re going to need to know.”
