City Hall will be getting a fresh look, and more office space will be created for Clinton’s municipal court under a renovation plan that’s being paid for with part of a judge’s salary.

The Board of Aldermen at its April 16 meeting approved a $173,087 contract with Integrity Renovations and Repair of Terry to do the City Hall and Court Building work.

When Municipal Judge Steven Boone took a leave of absence in 2022 to go on a church mission trip to Brazil, City Attorney Will Purdie agreed to fill in while continuing his other duties, receiving half of Boone’s salary, with the rest of it earmarked for the renovation project. Over two years, that’s added up to about $90,000, with the City’s general fund budget providing the rest of the funding.

”That’s where the money is coming from,” says Mayor Phil Fisher. “So, it worked out real well.”

Fisher says the office space will be created in the lobby area of the Court Building. He says the City Hall renovations were badly needed, too.

“The carpet has been there probably twelve years,” the mayor notes. “It’s stained. It’s a mess. We’ll be repainting. There’ll be some adjustments in some of the rooms to make them a little bit more usable. It’s not a functional building to use, trying to get around from Point A to Point B. So, we’re going to work on that and try to get that straightened out.”

Clinton’s City Hall will soon enjoy some new carpet, fresh paint and several other updates.
