Living Young plans host of October Activities
by Emma Ellard
Those ages 50+ have plenty of activities to look forward to in October through Living Young, a community engagement program of Clinton’s Therapeutic Recreation Department. The program, which operates out of the Wood Activity Center on Clinton Boulevard, is looking forward to an October schedule jam-packed with special programs of tasty treats, DIY projects, educational sessions and plenty of fall fun – in addition to the regular monthly offerings of the Center.
Living Young is starting the month off sweet with a cookie swap on October 1 at 11:45 a.m. Participants should bring at least a dozen cookies, baked or store-bought, to the Wood Activity Center. A blind drawing will match attendees to their very own batch.
On October 3, Living Young will host a seminar on Medicare at 1:30 p.m. Dennis Ayers with Ayers Insurance Group will host the educational seminar at the Wood Activity Center. Attendees can have their Medicare questions answered and learn more about their options. Space is limited, so RSVPs are required.
Events will pick back up on October 16 at 9 a.m. with a CPR certification session hosted by Bell Life Safety at Wood Activity Center. The organizers hope to equip Clinton community members with life-saving skills. Space is also limited for this opportunity, so registration is required. The organizers ask that reservations be sent by email to Susan Rodriguez at susan.rodriguez@LHCGroup.com.
Then, on October 18 at 11:30 a.m., Living Young will host an Oktoberfest Luncheon. The social event will bring food, refreshments and the spirit of autumn to Wood Activity Center. RSVPs are required for luncheon attendance.
On October 21 at 2 p.m., the Wood Center will transform into a venue of Candy Apple Creations. The tasty craft will give attendees an opportunity to make their own candy apples, complete with toppings. To make sure the event has plenty of apples for everyone, RSVPs will be required.
October’s calendar also features another installment of a recurring event intended for veterans. Vet to Vet Cafe will continue on October 21 at 9:30 a.m. At each Vet to Vet Cafe, attendees have a chance to enjoy refreshments and meet with other veterans. The event is sponsored by Baptist Hospice. For additional details, contact Susan Rodriguez at 601-933-0053.
Another DIY opportunity will roll around on October 23 at 2 p.m. with a gel air freshener making event. Project materials will be limited, so RSVPs are required.
Closing out the month with a Halloween favorite, Living Young will host a screening of Hocus Pocus on October 28 at 1:30 p.m. Popcorn will be provided, and those who wish to attend can get their ticket by registering ahead of time.
All events will be held at the Wood Activity Center, located at 111 Clinton Boulevard. More information on registration/RSVPs, as well as other community programs and Living Young offerings, can be found by visiting clintonms.org/therapeutic-recreation/ or by calling 601-924-6387.
