Friday Nights at Milepost 89 to be tribute to John Prine

Special to The Clinton Courier

Slightly Tarnished

Slightly Tarnished

The Friday, October 18, music offering will feature the band Slightly Tarnished.  The band members have been playing music for decades and enjoy all types of music, especially Americana, folk rock and traditional country.  Three of the five band members have been playing since the sixties and love performing for live audiences. Members of the band are Robert Ferren, guitar and vocals; Deborah (Nan) Hydrick, vocals; Marijane Whitfield, keyboard and vocals; Phillip Till, guitar, banjo and vocals; Ed Tucker, guitar and vocals; and special guest Lance Stewart.

Slightly Tarnished started a music-based organization called Singing for the Kids.  Every dollar they earn through music is donated to the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital and, in a few short years, they have donated over $23,000 to the hospital. The band did a John Prine tribute concert at Duling Hall and raised almost $5,000 for the hospital. It is their goal to get musicians across the country to become involved with Singing for the Kids.

Friday Nights at Milepost 89 is the third Friday of the month at 6:30 p.m. inside the Clinton Visitor Center. Admission to each performance is at least eighty-nine cents. Guests who are exhibiting any symptoms of illness are asked to forgo the event.

The weekend music scene at the Clinton Visitor Center offers music by The Mississippi Old-Time Music Society on the first and third Sunday of the month from 2 until 4 p.m. The community is invited to come listen to the musicians who are dedicated to the preservation of old-time string music. The Clinton Trace Jammers jam on the fourth Sunday of the month from 2 until 4 p.m. and the community is invited to bring an instrument and play along with the group. The Clinton Visitor Center is located at 1300 Pinehaven Road, Milepost 89 on the Natchez Trace Parkway. For more details, call 601-924-2221.
