Food truck park moving closer to reality
By Randy Bell

The new food truck park will be located adjacent to Fire Station 2 on Old Vicksburg Road.
Creating a food truck park isn’t as simple as might sound – just ask Ward 1 Alderwoman Karen Godfrey.
“There’s really a lot more to it than you think,” she says, as an ad hoc committee of the Board of Aldermen continues sorting through the details. “There [are] so many rules and regulations, and we don’t want to throw something out there and then have to start changing everything immediately. So, we’re going through it, comparing it to [policies] other cities have, and trying to get it all down correct before we get started.”
Godfrey says she’s hoping to have it all worked out later this month, so the proposal can be presented to the Board for a vote.
One thing that’s set in stone: the location of the food truck park. Godfrey says the parking lot at Fire Station 2 on Old Vicksburg Road near Kids Towne Park is the ideal spot. It will have space for five trucks, and the City plans to add picnic tables.
With its proximity to Kids Towne, a new pickleball complex that’s being built and a future skate park, it should be “a fun place,” she says.
Food truck operators in Clinton will be required to move to the centralized location.
“They know that they have a temporary approval where they are [now],” Godfrey says. “Once we feel like we’ve got everything ready to go, we will notify them and give them a certain length of time to get moved over there.”
