New City jobs posting page launched

Those hoping to find work with the City of Clinton can use the City’s website to see what’s available, and Director of Communications and Tourism Marlee Price told the Board of Aldermen at its November 5 meeting that the application process is now being handled in-house.  Previously, the City paid for a software platform to input the applications.

“When you applied for a position, it would take you to their website,” Price says. City human resources (HR) employees would then have to log onto the CivicPlus site to view the applications.

According to Price, “It was very cumbersome.  We were paying a large fee, but we were not using a large portion [of the services], just because we’re such a small city.  Our HR needs weren’t the same as a lot of other places.”

So, now, the City is saving money by handling the applications internally with a more streamlined process.

“[Applicants] go to our website,” she says. “The PDF that they pull up and fill out, once they hit send, it sends to our HR department, and then they route it to a department head who’s over that particular job.”

Keeping everything in-house also makes it easier to track the applications.

“We would have a lot of people who would apply, eager people, [and] would call in the next day and [ask] ‘Where’s my application?’ But it was very hard to follow on [CivicPlus] where it was in the process,” Price recalls.

The “Work for Clinton” page on the ClintonMS.org website has undergone a redesign.

“We kind of changed the look it,” she says. “Before, it was very mechanical, not very engaging.  We worked on it for about six months.”

One of the improvements was making it possible for applications to be filled out online and routed to HR.

The page features information about full-time employee benefits at the top, then lists a number City job openings, each with a “learn more” link, which provides details of the job, and an “apply now” link, which opens the application PDF.

Recent postings have included police officer, firefighter, school crossing guard, booking officer, tennis coordinator, heavy equipment operator, grounds technician and maintenance technician.
