MC plans full slate of performances for spring

A varied lineup of spring events at Mississippi College will be available to the campus community, Clinton residents and the general public this spring.

MC will continue to engage central Mississippi residents with enlightening events and entertaining performances as the institution closes out its 199th academic session.

Symphonic Winds, MC’s musical ensemble, will open the Department of Music’s spring season on Sunday, February 23, when they will present a concert in Swor Auditorium in Nelson Hall at 3 p.m. MC’s jazz ensemble is also scheduled to perform this spring, on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in the Entergy Theater at the Gore Arts Complex. Symphonic Winds will cap its annual tour with a special concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 14, also in Swor Auditorium; and the Choctaw Chorus, comprised of students from a variety of academic majors, will close out the university’s spring concert series at noon on Tuesday, April 15, at Alumni Hall.

The concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, visit music.mc.edu/events.

Lyric Stage performers will captivate audiences by bringing Damon Runyon’s Depression-era New York City characters to life in the beloved musical Guys and Dolls.

The show will be presented at 7 p.m., from Thursday through Saturday, February 27 to March 1. There will also be a performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 2. Performances will be in the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall in the Aven Fine Arts Building.

Lori Bobo, MC director of university events, said many other activities will occur throughout the spring season – including Founders Day, Choctaw Expressions, art exhibits at the Gore Galleries and the Gore Arts Complex, senior recitals for budding professional pianists and vocalists, a full slate of Gulf South Conference athletic contests, athletics and scholarship banquets, spring commencement and much more – that showcase the tremendous talent being nurtured at Mississippi College.
