Local VFW post plans Memorial Day commemoration

The local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3685 in Clinton will be passing out poppies on May 24, in honor of Memorial Day, to commemorate comrades who did not return home from war. The VFW has partnered with two local businesses for this purpose. The post will be distributing the poppies at the Revell Hardware Company and Tractor Supply Company locations in Clinton from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Clinton’s VFW Post is involved in several activities that see to the needs of veterans and their families. They help support the VFW National Children’s Home and help in maintaining support for state and national veteran’s rehabilitation service programs.

Local post leadership says the post needs the help of the local community to accomplish their mission. They say they would especially like to invite all local service members and retirees to join in their efforts.

They say their group is small, but the need is great. All who have served in foreign conflicts are invited to join the post in their service. The group meets once a month on the third Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Providence Presbyterian Church building on Clinton-Raymond Road for a short period of fellowship and to discuss the business of the post. Advance notice of attendance is not necessary.
