Bell ringing ceremony planned for Sept. 17
The Walter Leake Chapter of the Mississippi Daughters of the American Revolution will host a “Bell Ringing Ceremony” at the Olde Towne Depot Bell Tower in Clinton on September 17 at 3 p.m.
The event is held in celebration of the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. DAR chapters throughout the United States celebrate Constitution Week (September 17 – 23) annually by ringing bells simultaneously at 3 p.m., Central Standard Time.
DAR chapters encourage churches, local governments and citizens in their communities to celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution by participating in the traditional bell ringing ceremonies, learning about the American Revolution and America’s founding fathers, and flying American flags during the week. DAR chapters place posters and other materials in schools and public venues, conduct programs and ask local governments to issue proclamations in recognition of Constitution Week.
The public is invited to gather at the Olde Towne Depot at 2:30 p.m. There will be a brief welcoming ceremony and program, and the proclamation recognizing Constitution Week in the City of Clinton will be displayed. The bell ringing will take place at 3 p.m.
