The Clinton Lady Arrow soccer team has enjoyed a lot of success over the past few years. Lady Arrow head coach Elliot Rimmer is optimistic about this year’s team.
Clinton last won the state championship in 2023, defeating Gulfport, and made it to the finals again in 2024, falling to Northwest Rankin. Last year, CHS finished 14-5-1, falling to Oxford in the first round of the playoffs.
CHS has started the season 3-0-1 with wins over West Jones (3-0), South Jones (3-0), and Lafayette County (5-0). Clinton tied Tupelo(1-1).
Rimmer lost Mandy Leach, Isabella Jones and Kate Crisler to graduation. All of those seniors last season were four- or five-year staters. Crisler missed the entire 2025 season with an injury.

But Clinton has a lot of experience coming back this season. Ten of eleven starters return from last year.
Expecting to lead the offense is senior Kayla Jones. She was the team’s leading scorer for the past four years. Jones is a Holmes CC commit and had 24 goals and 7 assists a year ago. Also returning is junior starting goal keeper Ellyn Burchfield, who has already has multiple Division I college scholarship offers, according to Rimmer.
Other key returning seniors include Ruby Acy, a Hinds CC commit, and senior mid-fieler Carly Howell.

Key newcomers include freshman Mamie Boswell and Leah Strickler. Sophomore Joelle Ambrose is expected to make an impact in every area of the field, according to Rimmer.
“With a young team again, the experience gained last year by eighth graders will be invaluable for multiple freshman starters this year,” said Rimmer. “We have proven our ability to score goals, so the focus will be on our back line this year, led by junior Taylor Robinson. She will be joined by freshman and sophomores that have improved so much over the past year in the off season.”
“Our midfield has also improved drastically from last year, as evidenced by our early season results. We expect to have a really good rotation of quality players to rotate in the game,” said Rimmer.

Clinton was predicted to be in the mix in the preseason Class 7A rankings. Favorites in girls’ North Class 7A include Clinton, Madison Central, Tupelo and Oxford. In South 7A, perennial favorites include Brandon and Northwest Rankin.
Clinton starts the tough Region 2-7A schedule on December 12 against Oxford, Germantown, Madison Central and Starkville.
