By Charlie Rook
After an incredible summer, Clinton Little League’s season came to an end at the Southwest Regional, where the team represented Mississippi against some of the top Little League teams in the region.
The run marked another successful chapter for Clinton Little League, which has now represented Mississippi at the Southwest Regional in two of the last three years. With another state championship and regional appearance, Clinton continues to establish a standard for the teams that will follow.
After capturing the Mississippi State Championship, Clinton earned the opportunity to compete at the Southwest Regional, with a chance to advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Clinton opened regional play with a strong performance against New Mexico, earning a 4-0 victory to begin the tournament. The win put Clinton in position to continue its run through the winner’s bracket.
In its next game, Clinton faced Louisiana in a defensive battle but came up just short in a 2-0 loss. The defeat sent Clinton into the elimination side of the bracket, where it faced Texas West with its season on the line.
Clinton’s run ultimately came to an end against Texas West, which went on to win the Southwest Regional. While the loss ended Clinton’s hopes of reaching Williamsport this summer, it did little to diminish a season that included a Mississippi state championship and a victory on the regional stage.
Reaching the Southwest Regional twice in three seasons has also shown the consistency Clinton Little League has developed. Each appearance brings the program another step closer to its ultimate goal of sending a team from Clinton to the Little League World Series.
For the players, coaches and families, the end of the regional tournament brings to a close a summer filled with baseball and memories. With school beginning and another Little League season in the books, Clinton’s players can finally enjoy a well-earned break.
The 2026 season may be over, but another state championship and regional appearance have given the next generation of Clinton Little League players something to chase.
