4 Snow Day Activities for the Whole Family

Whether you’re staying home from school or work, a snow day is the best day of the week. With an unexpected day off comes limitless things to do. However, it can still be hard figuring out the best way to stay busy—especially when you have energetic kids running around. To help you out, here’s our list of snow day activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Bake

Baking is a snow day classic, and for good reason. Everyone can participate, which makes the process much more fun. Warm, gooey cookies go great with a steaming mug of hot chocolate, and there’s no better snack after being out in the cold. Do your future selves a favor by making a fresh batch of cookies before going outside to play.

Be a Good Neighbor

Teach your kids the value of a good deed by grabbing the shovels and heading to the sidewalk or a neighbor’s driveway. This is a great way for kids to get their energy out while also having fun and being productive. Just be sure to bundle up. Young children are particularly susceptible to the cold, so if you’re going outside on a snow day, dress them as if you’re heading out into the Colorado mountains. With the entire family involved, you can clear the sidewalk quickly and have fun while doing it.

Paint the Snow

Snow forts and snowball fights are traditional snow day activities for the whole family, but you can spruce it up with some colorful snow paint. Use food coloring and water to make harmless paints that will melt away with the snow. From masterpieces to splatter-painted snow forts, everyone can stretch their creative muscles.

Light a Fire

There’s something about winter weather that makes us want to curl up and get cozy. The perfect place to spend a snow day is beside a crackling fireplace—especially if it’s still stormy outside. After the fun of the day, everyone can wind down with soft blankets, a favorite movie, and the fire’s warm light.
