The reason given behind the new laws is to deteriorate the popularity of online gambling among British youth and also to prevent children and vulnerable users from the harms of irresponsible online gambling. Netizens and online gamblers aren’t happy with the decision and they have declared these laws as unfair and mean. UKGC; however, has denied all the criticism, saying these laws are being implemented to make gambling in the UK safer and sustainable and prevent online casinos from exploiting players’ rights.

Apart from affecting the gambling industry as a whole, these laws might change how we look and play online slot machines as there are some significant changes about to occur.

What Are UKGC’s The New Slot Laws?

There is a whole list of changes and laws that for sure will affect the future of slot machines, and the details are as follows:

  •     All of the features that can speed up the gameplay, such as Speed Spins, are now prohibited, and a slot must have 2.5 seconds of delay time between two spins.
  •     All of the features such as that can give players an illusion of controlling the gameplay, such as “Bonus Buy Feature,” are now prohibited as they can make players spend more than anticipated.
  •     Autoplay feature is getting a permanent ban, and after October 2021, you won’t be able to find it in a slot in the UK. The reason for banning the feature is that it makes it harder for the players to keep track of the time and losses as bets are made automatically.
  •     Sounds, images, and graphics give out an illusion of winning even though the results are either negative or remain the same are also being banned. This step is taken to allow users to be better aware of what is going on.
  •     Online casinos are now obliged to display the losses and time of a slot session on the game screens.
  •     The reverse withdrawal feature is being prohibited from now on. The feature allowed users to cancel a withdrawal request or to bet some of the funds they had requested for withdrawal before they were processed. Now, it is prohibited for online casinos to offer such a feature, and from now on, there won’t be an option to cancel your withdrawal requests.
  •     VIP players on the slot sites will have to reveal their identity and prove if they can maintain and afford a high roller account. Besides, players wishing to enter the VIP club will also have to reveal their source of income.

When Will These New Slot Laws Imposed?

The new laws were introduced in Feb-2021 after consultation with the public and players by the Chief Executive of UKGC; Neil McArthur, and online casino operators and software developers were given a deadline of October 31, 2021, to implement enhanced protection laws.
